Mount St. Louis Moonstone Ski Resort
Mount St. Louis Moonstone Ski Resort is located in Oro-Medonte, Ontario. It offers its riders many wonderful reasons to ski and snowboard. They have 100 percent snow making abilities and uses Pisten Bully for grooming to provide the best corduroy for skiers and riders. In addition, they are situated in the Snow Belt location of Central Ontario, which ensures sufficient snow and longer season for skiing, snowboarding, and other winter sport activities. Mount St. Louis Moonstone Ski Resort is a family-friendly establishment with trained professionals to assist everyone and to ensure riders/skiers’ safety all the time. The resort is open from December to March, and is closed the rest of the year. It is also closed all day long during Christmas, December 25.
With over 40 years of first-rate service, the resort is known to be one of Ontario’s biggest family-owned ski resorts. An Alpine skier named Josl Huter, together with his wife and two sons, founded Mount St. Louis Moonstone Ski Resort. In 1963, they bought a hill covered with large trees, investigated and studied the property, and made it into a spectacular ski resort. It first opened to the public in December l964.
The resort has 170 acres or 68.8 hectares of skiable terrain. The highest accessible point in the resort is 501 feet (152.7 meters) up. Annual snowfall averages at three meters or 120 inches. There are a total 40 runs, 35 percent of which are for beginners and 50 percent for intermediates. The remaining percentage is used by advanced and expert skiers. It has two terrain parks – the Outback and the Junk Yard. The Outback terrain is intended for advanced riders while the Junk Yard terrain is designed for beginners.
Most of the resort's guests are novice skiers and those with intermediate skills, although only a few of them come from outside Canada. One of the best features offered by Mount St. Louis Moonstone Ski Resort is their Bag Jump. Located in their Outback Terrain, this giant 49ft x 49ft bag allows skiers of any level to try tricks they have been dreaming of. The huge bag catches skiers and ensures no serious injuries will happen anytime. Private and semi-private courses and programs are also offered here. They have lessons for kids up to 17 years old, an 8-week program for beginners and intermediate, and a day care for children aged 3-5. The Junk Yard is the best spot for early season sliding. It is always the first ski area to open in Ontario. It is home to many smooth rails, kickers, zero gravity, and the Zaung Progression Pipe. The express chair lifts of the resort are ideally made so skiers will not have to wait too long when in the lift line. Equipment rentals are available.
